Inspiring mathematicians, empowering problem-solvers, and nurturing confident mathematical communicators
At Girton Glebe Primary School we follow a mastery approach to the teaching of mathematics. This is underpinned by the NCETM’s 5 Big Ideas: Representation and Structure, Mathematical Thinking, Fluency, Variation and Coherence. At the centre of this approach is the belief that all children have the potential to succeed. As such, all children in the same year group should have access to the same curriculum content and, rather than being extended with new content from other year groups, they are provided with opportunities to deepen their conceptual knowledge through reasoning and problem-solving tasks.
Our aim is that all children leave Girton Glebe as:
- Confident and proficient with numbers
- Problem solvers
- Articulate with mathematical language
- Curious and with an understanding of the real-life context of maths
