Girton Glebe Primary School welcomes all primary age children who live within or near Girton. Visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged.
Applying for Admissions (Early Years Foundation Stage)
Children are eligible to begin school at the start of the academic year in which they reach the age of five.
For children starting with us in September, we use the summer term to host pre-school visits, providing relaxed opportunities for the children to meet school staff, and throughout the year there are liaison meetings with staff from local pre-schools and nurseries so we get to know our new starters.
We recognise that individual children may need a different pace of starting school and so initially, families may choose either a part-time place (mornings only) or a full time place. Children who start school part-time may progress to full-time at key points during the year when they are settled. This is to ensure that each child has a happy and confident start. All children are full-time during the Summer Term.
We are proud and fortunate to operate a “buddy” system, where each Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) child is paired up with a Year 6 “buddy”, who receive training from Relate counsellors to prepare them for the role. Both year groups benefit from the initiative, with the younger pupils becoming familiar with the older children and feeling looked after, and the Year 6 pupils understanding responsibility and the importance of acting as role models for the younger pupils.
