Children are eligible to begin school at the start of the academic year in which they reach the age of five.
During the summer term, pre-school visits and meetings are held, and throughout the year there are liaison meetings with staff from local pre-schools and nurseries.
We recognise that individual children may need a different pace of starting school and so initially, families may choose either a part-time place (mornings only) or a full time place. Children who start school part- time may progress to full-time at key points during the year when they are settled. This is to ensure that each child has a happy and confident start. All children are full-time during the Summer Term.
We operate a “buddy” system, where each Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) child is paired up with a Year 6 “buddy”, who receive training from Relate counsellors to prepare them for the role. Both year groups benefit from the initiative, with the younger pupils becoming familiar with the older children and feeling looked after, and the Year 6 pupils understanding responsibility and the importance of acting as role models for the younger pupils.
We look forward to welcoming your child to Ash Class; for a taster, take a look at Autumn in Ash Class.
